Damaged Gear on Opener Motor

Writer: Monkey Garage DoorsMonkey Garage Doors

If you notice a lot of slack on the belt,

You might have a damaged gear.

If you notice you have to click 3 or 4 times to make the opener close, the travel settings might have moved due to a damaged gear.

Why does this happen?

It usually happens when you have a broken spring. You don't notice the spring is broken and continue to press on the opener multiple times damaging the gear.

Why?

Because without the help of the spring, depending if you have 1 or 2 springs, the motor is trying to lift about 100-200 pounds on a double car garage door with no windows and no insulation. It is heavier if you have windows or insulation or both.

So if you notice a lof of slack on the belt or chain, call us to make a safety inspection and provide an estimate for repairs.

Below you can see the damages gear. Notice that is not centered ans there is a lot of metal fatigue or metal shavings around it.

“Very knowledgeable and professional. They came in because my door would not open. After calling them I received a call from the technician and got here on time. He immediately knew what the problem was and showed me the broken spring. I will use them again.
